His fury over the death of Oda Nobunaga to dishonorable assassination was glorious. I took out the son-and-heir of Mike’s (the blog your reading belongs to him) clan when he was a bunch of provinces away. I now know, at the hands of Orrie in multiplayer, that army sabotage can have dramatic effect when used intelligently. I assumed assassinating and building sabotage were the most valuable actions of a ninja. Well said! I admit to not seeing the vast advantage of sabotaging armies when I was first exploring ninjas in shogun 2. You can also buy yourself time if an army is approaching your city and you want to build yourself more units. Sabotage reinforcing armies so that they cannot aid their main force once you strike. Subverting armies can be a lifesaver in Shogun 2. Sabotaging - I originally overlooked subverting enemy armies because I just wanted my ninja to go pick off every general, daimyo, metsuke, monk or even get some ninja on ninja action going in the game. You will find this much more effective than making each of your ninjas a jack-of-all-trades and master of none. Specialize each of your ninjas to be especially good in a particular task - whether it be sabotaging armies, buildings, or assassination. This game is about specialization and the ninja is a perfect example. So what I do in this sense is make multiple ninjas that sabotage and kill like second nature. Little did I know that I would not be able to fill out all of his skills because he can only get so good. I initially made the mistake of wanting him to be a complete badass so I tried excelling him in everything. An amazing saboteur or a stone cold killing machine. Once your ninja starts getting level ups, you have the ability to make him a specialist. On the other hand, sabotaging rice paddies and the like do dramatically more damage to a clan than stopping a single yari ashigaru from moving (in most cases). Sabotaging small armies typically have high success %s and just as important - cost little $$$ (80g-ish). I typically find that sabotaging small armies is the best way to go. I know, if he were a real life ninja it would be 150%. Your initial success rate of doing this will be somewhere above 50%. The best way to do this and do this fast is to sabotage rice paddies, temples and a clans natural resource. It was annoying as shit when I wanted him to start killing people and I see this bullshit 20% success rate? Before you send your ninja on a murderous rampage he needs to acquire some kills, I mean skills. Now I know what your thinking, you got your ninja, and you want him to go on a rampage and start killing people. Let’s not forget provincial happiness! The wealth from the sake den is quite good - I typically build a sake den in my non-military provinces more for the wealth than the additional ninja.

So not only do you have the ability to recruit a ninja, but it also adds to your wealth from that particular province. Well then how do you get a ninja if your another clan you ask? Well thats quite simple, you build a Sake Den. But, if you start with the Chosokabe for example, you won’t. If you start off as the Hattori, you will have a ninja from the start of your campaign.

These bad-asses play an important part in Shogun 2, especially if you use them to their full potential. When I think about ninjas I just want to jump kick someone in the head.
